As part of our 100th birthday celebrations, we invited the Mayor of Solihull, Mrs Flo Nash, to unveil a plaque to commemorate the event.

She was piped into the Headquarters by the Shirley Pipe band, was welcomed by our GSL Tony Fitzgerald and took part in a flag break before unveiling the plaque.

The event was attended by Group members, both old and current including 4 previous GSL’s.  Displays from each section of the group plus several items of memorabilia were on display.

fter the unveiling of the plaque a special cake, which included a neckerchief and a copy of our 100th birthday badge both made from icing, was formally cut by the oldest and the youngest member of the Group.

Summary of changes to Subs

We have recently had a meeting to plan scouting activities and funding for the next year and concluded that the Subs set 5 years ago can no longer support the regular activities your children enjoy.

In order to avoid raising the subs more than necessary we also need to be more efficient about how we collect the money and so we also propose a new easier payment method. Key changes we’re making are:

· Subs for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will increase to £15 a month and for Intrepid, the increase will be to £16 a month. This is the first time that subs have been revised since 2013.

· We will switch our collection of subs from a Standing Order to a Direct Debit model using a system called Online Scout Manager or OSM which is used by many other scout groups across the UK. This will be far easier for us to manage but also means that your payments will be protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee

· The switch to the OSM system will also mean that we will be able to manage our membership records more effectively, including keeping track of which of the subs payments are eligible for Gift Aid. As a charity, we are entitled to claim Gift Aid from all subs payers who are UK taxpayers and who have indicated that they are willing for us to claim Gift Aid on their contributions. If we are able to prove which of our subs payments are eligible for Gift Aid, this could boost our annual income by £4000-£5000.

· We will retain a discount for siblings and for children of leaders and adult helpers but this will be managed via an annual refund of subs paid based on our annual membership census

We remain committed to inclusion for all of our members and do not want anyone to miss out on the opportunities that Scouting presents. If the changes to subs collection are likely to cause you any financial hardship, please do contact us in confidence at .

More detail about the changes and why we have made them can be found on our group Facebook page and will be displayed on the notice board in our HQ building. We’ll be contacting all of our parents and carers, section by section over the coming months to ensure that the switch to the new subs collection model is as seamless as possible.

Good News breaking yesterday was Intrepid winning operation chameleon for the second year running.

Operation Chameleon is an event run by Solihull Scout County for Scouts, Explorers, Network and Adults.

Operation Chameleon is an all terrain version of Hide & Seek.

In your teams you will get dropped at a secret location, meanwhile, teams of catchers will be dropped at another secret location… unknown even until you arrive!

You’ve then got all day to either evade capture or go hunting! If you get caught, don’t worry you’ve got other lives!

Finally can you make it back to Mission Control in the correct time frame or will you be disqualified?!
